Daylight through a closed shutter

A vented slat trades stiffness for light. The S-Bright section is an attempt to give back most of the stiffness without closing the aperture.

Every perforation in a slat is material removed from the section, and a section with material removed is less stiff. That is the whole design problem in a daylight shutter.

The S-Bright range answers it at the slat profile rather than at the hole: the aperture is opened up, and the section is redrawn around it so the remaining material carries more of the bending. The result passes noticeably more daylight than a standard vented slat at a comparable span.

It matters most on a narrow urban frontage, where the shutter is often the only opening in the elevation and the ground floor is dark whenever the door is down. A shop can trade with the door shut; a workshop can work.
